Read through the list together. Check that learners know the meaning of each word, and replace words that do not fit your lesson. The generator uses uppercase A–Z letters. A worksheet practises spelling and recognition; introduce new meanings before asking learners to work independently.

A classroom idea

Sort the words into SH at the start and SH at the end. Keep S and H together when underlining the spelling pattern.

Sort before searching

Write SHIP and FISH as anchors. Read the list together, explain unfamiliar words such as SHIN and SHED, and place each word under its matching anchor. Ask learners to underline both letters of SH with one line. The printable uses uppercase letters, so connect them with the lowercase forms learners see in books.

Keep the spelling focus clear

In a scramble, S and H may be separated because every letter is shuffled independently. Rebuild the whole word, then mark SH again; do not suggest the scramble preserves sound units. Use pictures or spoken examples if the meanings are still new. Finish with a two-word comparison, rather than asking beginners to memorize the entire list at once.
