Animals vocabulary activities
Explore familiar wild animals and compare the places they live. This list combines short names with longer spellings so you can adapt the challenge to your learners.
Make a animals worksheetYour starting word list
Before you print
Read through the list together. Check that learners know the meaning of each word, and replace words that do not fit your lesson. The generator uses uppercase A–Z letters. A worksheet practises spelling and recognition; introduce new meanings before asking learners to work independently.
A classroom idea
Ask pairs to sort the animals into groups: animals with stripes, animals that climb, and animals that swim. Accept more than one group when learners can explain their choice.
Talk about it
Which animal would you like to learn more about, and what question would you ask?
Choose an activity
- Word search: start with across and down, then add diagonal or backward directions.
- Vocabulary bingo: use the small grid with this list, and call words or definitions.
- Word scramble: rebuild each word and check it against the separate key.
